About Layla J. Bonner

Dr. Layla J. Bonner is an Assistant Professor in the Mental Health Counseling graduate program at Belmont University. She graduated with her Ph.D. in Clinical Counseling, Teaching, & Supervision from a CACREP accredited doctoral program at Trevecca University. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Tennessee and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She works with individuals and couples in private practice and also supervises post masters counselor's toward full licensure. Dr. Bonner is a Clinical Fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as well as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. She has presented at conferences hosted by the Southern Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors through the American Counseling Association, The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, and the Black Mental Health Symposium. As a faculty member, she is also currently writing and submitting articles to counseling related journals.

About Gideon W. Park

Gideon W. Park holds a doctor of philosophy from Vanderbilt University, a master of sacred theology from Yale Divinity School, a master of divinity from Westminster Seminary California, and a bachelor of science from Missouri Baptist University. He started teaching at Belmont University in 2015, having completed a certificate in college teaching at the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching. His pedagogy foregrounds critical thinking, reading, and writing in the academic study of religion. He is the author of The Politics of Race and Ethnicity in Matthew’s Passion Narrative (Palgrave Macmillan) and editor of Stories of Minjung Theology (SBL Press). His other publications on race/ethnicity include: "Christological Discourse as Racial Discourse" (Religion & Theology), "The Black Jesus, the Mestizo Jesus, and the Historical Jesus" (Biblical Interpretation), and "Sensing Ethnic Difference" (Journal for the Study of the Old Testament). Dr. Park has been awarded grants on racial/ethnic diversity by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities, and Wabash Center for Teaching & Learning in Theology and Religion. He lives in Nashville, TN with his wife and two kids.
